The FEATURES

- All those carvings that made the said tree majestic -

The artists carved images of animals such as a rooster, a deer, a lizard, and two dogs into the tree’s body. Engraved on the tree’s branch was a woman’s outstretched arm on which at the tip-end of it was carved a bird and a snake approaching a child in a “soaring motion”, who is believed to be Iddaya’s son. The beautiful ladies and handsome gentlemen impressed on the tree’s trunk must be Igorots, as seen with their unique and well-known costumes.

Iddaya is indeed a perfect representation of Mother Earth because of her beauty and kindness, according to the neighboring stores of the famous tree. The tree made up the full form of Iddaya, whose hands clasped her chest. The shape of a lizard was by her right hip to symbolize fertility.

The image of a lingling-o, a circular symbol representing Ifugao female sexuality and fertility, is near the figure. The face of a hunter is on the right side of the tree opposite Iddaya’s face, which faces Mines View Park. On the treetop, the artists fashioned a bul-ul (or bul-ol), a wooden figure that is believed to protect rice granaries in Ifugao.
