-The people behind the Veteran Pine's   success-

The Artist

The VOCAS artists of Baguio City, headed by Kidlat Tahimik and supervised by his son, Kawayan de Guia, gathered to carve the 50-foot-tall pine tree for no charge. The operation lasted for 11 days. After reshaping the tree in the theme of Mother Nature in tribute to the city’s remaining pine forests, they unveiled it on January 23, 2012.

They peeled off the tree’s bark and chiseled through the trunk to create the giant face of Iddaya, a generous "kadangyan" (rich person) in Ifugao lore.
